CLT Layups and Basis of Design for Gravity Load Applications
Expert Tips
Architects & Engineers
Technical guidance on using layups defined in the ANSI/APA PRG 320 Standard for Performance-Rated Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) as the basis for design. Covers CLT manufacturing from dimension lumber or structural composite lumber, standardization of CLT quality and structural properties, building code recognition since 2015 IBC, and seven stress grades of CLT panels (E1-E4 using machine stress-rated lumber, V1-V3 using visually-graded lumber). Addresses structural properties qualification process, construction type applications, and manufacturer considerations for available grades and layups beyond standard examples.
