Pilot Projects' Events at COP30

List of events that Pilot Projects will be hosting and contributing to during COP30 in Belém.

Canopy Pact Breakfast | Casa da Gloria (Rio de Janeiro)

November 5th | 7h30 to 9h30

Hosted by UNEP, ICLEI, and IPAM, this event aims to build momentum and political visibility for the Canopy Pact in the lead-up to COP30 and engage mayors and urban networks in the forest-biodiversity-climate discussion. Pilot Projects will facilitate an open discussion on the Canopy Pact Roadmap to Yerevan and the significance of the Call of the Forest Declarations for global city-led climate change mitigation strategies.



The Call of the Forest Declaration Launch | Francophonie Pavilion, Blue Zone

November 11th | 11h30 to 12h30

Hosted by the AIMF in the Francophonie Pavilion (Blue Zone), the event will mark the launch of the Call of the Forest Declaration during COP30. The event will gather mayors and government representatives from around the francophone world to discuss the signature and implementation of the values and calls to action in the declaration. Pilot Projects, as the co-author of the declaration, will participate in the discussion of its importance and methods of guaranteeing implementation through innovative solutions to systemic issues.



Answering "The Call of the Forest" | Extreme Hangout - Parque da Residência: AV. Magalhaes Barata, 830

November 11th | 18h to 20h

Hosted by Pilot Projects with the support of the AIMF and City of Belém, the event will be a transformative event and continuation of its launch in the blue zone. The event aims to expand participation and the signature of non-francophone cities while focusing on the initiatives that tropical cities can take to align with the calls to action in the declaration. It will be an opportunity for cities globally to demonstrate what genuine international cooperation on urban urban action on forests, local and global, looks like when cities move beyond signatures to practical environmental action.



Sustainable Wood, forests and livelihoods' contribution to climate change mitigation and adaptation | ITTO Side-Event

November 19th | 15h to 16h30

The ITTO hosted event will discuss the use of sustainable wood and how it provides income and livelihoods to forest communities, contributes to their wellbeing, the sustainable conservation of the resource base while simultaneously sequesters and locks carbon in both tropical forests and in wood products. Successes and lessons learnt will be shared. Pilot Projects will participate in the discussion on the role of sustainable forest management, certified community sourced timber (or conservation timber) and innovations in the built environment can advance the transition to more resilient, circular, and carbon-neutral cities.



Sustainable Forest Management in the Amazon and the Future of Tropical Bioconstruction | Aldeia COP, Escola de Aplicação da UFPA, Avenida Perimetral, 1000

November 20th | 17h to 18h

Hosted by Pilot Projects, this event will be a part of the Aldeia COP and discuss the role of sustainable forest management, certified and community sourced timber (“conservation timber”), as well as innovations in architecture and urban construction that are advancing the transition toward more resilient, circular, and carbon-neutral tropical cities. Pilot Projects will briefly present its current work in Guyana as well as its Habitat Bio initiative that is being developed in collaboration with the state government, the ministry of Indigenous Affairs, the Amazonas Tapajos Model Forest and Federal Universities. The structure will cultivate a long term partnership with the Amazonas Tapajós Model Forest and the Federal University of Western Pará, which will adopt the structure as a permanent research and outreach station. Located in the state of Pará, the Model Forest encompasses a diverse mosaic of public, private, Indigenous, and federal lands, including over 100 Indigenous communities and other traditional Amazonian peoples.
